Glossier | Brand Review

Sunday, July 1, 2018

I finally got around to picking up some Glossier products. I only picked up a few items to get a feel for the brand, but I do plan on doing another haul soon! Glossier seem to get really big, really fast, and came out of nowhere. They seemed to have so much hype right from the beginning. Glossier is more of a natural-looking everyday makeup brand, which fits right in with the way I like to do my makeup.

In the land between bare skin and makeup makeup exists the imperceptible wash of color that is our Perfecting Skin Tint. What does it do? Evens out discoloration and leaves your face looking toned, smooth, and dewy. The breathable, ultra thin formula auto-fits to skin, making application as simple as throwing on moisturizer. What won’t it do? Hide your freckles, spackle your pores, or erase any other evidence that you are, in fact, a real human being.

PERFECTING SKIN TINT
I have worn the same foundation for several years. My beloved Chanel Vitalumière Aqua will always have a place in my makeup bag. However, over the last year, I have noticed that I have worn foundation less and less. Currently I don’t wear any. I wanted to try the skin tint because most people say that it is very sheer coverage. I picked up the Perfecting Skin Tint in Light ($26). The formula is very runny, almost like water. To apply, I dotted some on my face and applied with my fingers. The skin tint melts into your skin, so there is no need for a makeup brush or a beauty blender. It is so low-maintenance and weightless on the skin. You can even build it up a bit. The skin tint leaves a dewy finish on the skin, which is something I prefer in a foundation so I don’t feel the need to powder after applying. I think I could have gone with the medium shade, as it is a bit too light for me. If you are between shades, I would recommend going with the darker shade. It blends so easily and the coverage is so barely-there that you wouldn’t notice a difference on the skin. It lasts well on me and doesn’t cling to any dry patches. Glossier claims that it hides your freckles, as someone that has a ton of them, I would disagree. Overall, I’m obsessed with this product. I still go most days without a tint or foundation, but when I want to feel a bit more put together this is the first thing I reach for.

Generation G is a new kind of lip color that gives the look and finish of just-blotted lipstick, without the blot. We’ve created a short list of the six most important shades, with dialed-down pigment loads for a casual look: Zip, Leo, Crush, and Jam, along with the super subtle Cake and Like, which give some oomph to lighter lip tones. They’re lipsticks that adapt to you, not the other way around, so they'll appear a bit different on everyone as your natural lip color shows through. The effect? Diffused, matte goodness—just swipe it on.

GENERATION G SHEER MATTE LIPSTICK
I prefer a simpler lip. I don’t want hassle and I don’t want to have to worry about needing a lip liner. I tend to stick with tinted lip balms, lip stains, and liquid lipstick here and there. With a six-shade range, the Generation G lipstick have a sheer, lightweight, formula with a matte finish. I picked up the Generation G sheer matte lipstick ($18) in Leo and Jam. Jam is a deep berry magenta, and Leo is a warm cocoa brown. Each lipstick will look different on everyone, as they adapt to you. The formula is matte, yet it has a balm-like texture on the lips. The Generation G lipsticks are long lasting and don’t dry out my lips. Usually, I can’t wear matte lipsticks because my lips are really dry. These are a bit on the more expensive side. For only 0.07oz/2.0g of product, they are a bit on the pricey side at $18. I love these lipsticks for everyday use and they have become my most reached for out of all my lip products. If I had to pick my favorite, it would definitely be Leo!

Everyone needs a luxurious face cream in their lineup—for nighttime, for wintertime, for any time your face needs nourishing, comforting hydration. This dense sumptuous cream is rich in ceramides and fatty acids, reinforcing the skin barrier and locking in moisture over time. Our Anti-Redness Complex and Oxygenating Agent are the priming ingredients, instantly making skin a smooth, dewy canvas for makeup (or not), just like our bestselling original Priming Moisturizer. Formulated with a balanced, non-greasy blend of shea and murumuru butters to melt perfectly into skin for a supremely lavish hydrating experience.

PRIMING MOISTURIZER RICH
The one Glossier product out of my little haul that I did not like. Oh how I wanted to love this product. Everyone is obsessed with it. I picked up the Priming Moisturizer Rich ($35) because it was a dense and nourishing moisturizer for my dry skin. I love my current moisturizer, but I always like to try new products too. I don’t consider my skin very sensitive. It is dry and dehydrated, and I usually avoid products that claim to remove dark-spots or hyper pigmentation as I am not quite ready to lose my freckles. After applying the moisturizer, my skin burned. I thought I was being dramatic, everyone loves this moisturizer. The second time I tried it, it burned again, and the next day I woke up and my freckles had lightened. I ended up giving this moisturizer to my sister because she had wanted to try it. She has dehydrated, sensitive, acne-prone skin and didn’t have any problems with it.
