Hello, 2018.

Sunday, January 14, 2018

2017 was a hard year for me. I feel like it started out great. I did a little reset at the beginning of the year. I wouldn’t call it a diet, but I cut out everything that wasn’t that great for me. I also started working out a couple times a week.

In May 2017, I broke my ankle. I’ve only broken bones once before. When I was taking dance classes in High School at a local company. We were instructed to jump off the stage at the end of the song and keep dancing down the aisles. I knew the second I hit the ground, I broke something. I broke three metatarsals in my left foot. This time was different. I stumbled off a curb and heard a crack, yet was in denial. I kept thinking, no it’s just a sprain. I went home, laid on the couch, and a few hours later I knew I needed to go to the hospital.

Breaking my ankle devastated me. I don’t heal fast. I was a few months into my new workout routine, I was eating better. I became a vegetarian. But breaking my ankle, stopped everything. I was down for months. I was encouraged to stay off my feet, relax and let my body heal. With each x-ray I kept hoping that I was healed and each time there was still a little sliver of a break. Physical Therapy was brutal. I was out of shape and so scared of my ankle. I spent the rest of 2017 doing nothing but Physical Therapy and going to Orthopedic Doctors appointments. I know that I was lucky and my break was clean so I didn’t need surgery. However, it was hard not to slip into a bit of depression.

I don’t want to reflect too much on 2017. Other than breaking my ankle, not much else happened.

2018, for me, is a new beginning. I know it is a cliche, but I really am getting a fresh start. I just recently “re-learned” to drive, which makes me feel like a finally have some freedom. I can start working out again, maybe lose some of the weight I gained from being laid up for several months (which shockingly was only about ten pounds). My Physical Therapist recommended a Total Gym, so we got a great deal on one from QVC.

// WORK //

I really want to focus more on my blog this year. I think sometimes I take blogging too seriously and then I end up going several weeks without posting because nothing is good enough. I also want to revamp my blog. Although I worked hard on it, it still just doesn’t feel right or feel complete me. This is also a life thing, but I want to take more photos. I am saving up for a new camera and I want to push myself to get out more and take more photos. I’ve been toying with the idea of opening an Etsy shop. I’ve worked off and on over the last year trying to come up with items I would want to put out. Another idea I have been tying with is starting a YouTube channel. Starting a YouTube channel would be a big step for me, in putting myself out there on the internet. I like the idea of being anonymous too much and struggle with the idea of putting my face out there for everyone to see.

// LIFE //

As mentioned above, I really want to get out and take more photos. Most of the photos in my camera roll over the last year are pictures of Gracie — which is fine and I will continue to take way too many photos of her. However, Joe and I have been together for about 10 years. I feel like I don’t have a ton of photos of us and that makes me sad. I also want to take more photos of landscape, my favorite kind of photography. We almost had the opportunity to move to another country (so exciting), but as it was happening I realized that I haven’t traveled as much as I would have liked to. There are so many amazing places in and around Arizona. I want to push us to travel more this year. In 2017, I started to get more organized and condense the amount of things we own. I want to continue that this year. I want to keep pushing myself not to hold on to things just because. And finally. I am going to get into a routine of working out again. I am not going to be too hard on myself, it’s not that kind of resolution. With my ankle not 100% range of motion, I need to remember to cut myself some slack in 2018.
