Pass the Remote | Midseason 2017

Sunday, March 19, 2017
Pass The Remote series is something I do about three times a year: Fall, Mid-season, and Summer. I love books, but they aren’t the only thing I love. I love checking out the new shows that are airing, seeing if there is anything good that I can add to my long list of TV series'. I am a little picky, so I don't watch every pilot, just the ones that I think I'll be interested in.
There wasn’t a ton of shows premiering Midseason that I was interested in. As it turned out the shows I was interested in, didn’t really work out for me. One I liked more than the others, I put it in the ‘in love with’ section, and the rest were just kind of meh. I’m not actually too disappointed because I watch way too many TV shows. Maybe, someday soon, I'll do a post on all of the TV shows I watch.

IN LOVE WITH…

Emerald City
WHAT IT’S ABOUT  — Emerald City is based on the Oz book series by Frank Baum, and is set in the fictional Land of Oz. After being transported from Kansas to the Land of Oz by a tornado, 20-year-old Dorthy sets out to find the Wizard, unaware that she is about to fulfill a prophecy that will change everyone’s lives forever.

WHAT I THINK — I only just found out about this show, even though it premiered in January. From the trailer, it looked similar to Once Upon a Time. It’s one of those shows that I’m scared might get cancelled, but I enjoyed it anyway. I’ve only watched the first episode and I really like it so far. I love who they casted for Dorothy, and how Toto is a police dog. This is such a different take on the story, and I am really curious to see where it goes.

WHEN IT’S ON — Friday @8:00PM on NBC

VERDICT’S STILL OUT…

Big Little Lies
WHAT IT’S ABOUT  — Based on the novel by Liane Moriarty, Big Little Lies follows the lives of three mothers - Madeline, Celeste, and Jane, whose perfect lives unravel to the point of murder.

WHAT I THINK — Big Little Lies is a little out of the box for me. I’m still not sure about it, and sometimes it can be a little hard to watch. There are some relationships in the series that I’m not a fan of, but curious enough to see how it plays out. I put this as ‘verdict’s still out’ because I kind of want to know what happens, but I’m not really invested in the characters.

WHEN IT’S ON — Sunday @8:00PM on HBO

Time After Time
WHAT IT’S ABOUT  — Based on a novel of the same name, Time After Time follows the adventures of a young H.G. Wells and his time machine.

WHAT I THINK — I was really excited about this one. Once I found out about the Jack the Ripper storyline of the show, I knew I was going to have to check it out. I also really liked Josh Bowman in Revenge, and thought he was perfect to play Jack the Ripper. Time After Time has a lot of potential, but I'm not sure it's for me yet. I'll just have to keep watching to see if I get hooked!

WHEN IT’S ON — Sunday @8:00PM on ABC

A Series of Unfortunate Events
WHAT IT’S ABOUT  — Based on the book series by Lemony Snicket, A Series of Unfortunate Events follows the recently orphaned Baudelaire children as they search for their families secrets and try to keep their fortune away from the terrible Count Olaf.

WHAT I THINK — I am usually a book first, movie/tv show second person. However, it is a middle grade series and very long. I wanted to use the first episode to see if I might want to read the series. It is definitely out there. I was actually told by family members not to watch it because it's not my sort of thing. I’m not sure if I will continue or even read the books.

WHEN IT’S ON — Anytime you want, on Netflix.

BUSTS…

Chicago Justice
WHAT IT’S ABOUT  — A new addition to the Chicago franchise, Chicago Justice follows a team of prosecutors and investigators at the State's Attorneys office.

WHAT I THINK — I really wanted to like this show. I keep trying each new Chicago franchise series as they come out, and so far the only one I've stuck with is Chicago Fire. Chicago Justice felt really dry and kind of boring. I just couldn't get into this one.

WHEN IT’S ON — Sunday @8:00PM on NBC
